With a strong local presence and national network of volunteers and supporters, the Red Cross delivered on-the-scene relief for Californians as they coped with mandatory wildfire evacuations and heartbreaking losses. Six months after the Camp and Woolsey Fires, we continue to stand with survivors in communities affected by these and other 2018 wildfires, offering ongoing support for recovery as they pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives. To help the most severely affected households, the Red Cross provided additional financial assistance for people across the impacted regions. Reaching out directly to residents using a combination of Red Cross damage assessment information and FEMA inspection data, we have provided recovery assistance of $2,500 each to more than 10,000 of the most severely impacted households. This financial assistance will allow people to prioritize their family’s needs, such as home repairs and other housing expenses, purchase of specialized medical devices, transportation costs and more. Along with financial assistance for severely impacted households, the Red Cross is also providing strategic grants to non-profit organizations with specialized expertise in areas like home reconstruction, health and mental health services, and advocacy and support. Community grants will be prioritized to support needs in the hardest-hit and most economically vulnerable communities.

The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund supports immediate, mid- and long-term recovery efforts for major California wildfires, as well as support for animals affected by wildfires. Since the Wildfire Relief Fund opened in 2003, we have granted more than $22 million to support relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of devastating California wildfires.

Grants from the Wildfire Relief Fund have supported those who were displaced or lost housing, belongings and/or employment, or suffered physical or mental health problems; helped to rebuild homes; provided case management services, basic needs assistance, mental and behavioral health services; upgraded 2-1-1 phone and information system; assisted California wildfire victims with follow-up medical care and supplies; provided in-home care providers, domestic workers, and day laborers with financial assistance, health and safety education; provided financial disaster aid, information on farmworker labor laws, immigration services, and immigrant rights support to low-wage immigrant or mixed status families; and provided firefighters with updated safety equipment.

To date, the Wildfire Relief Fund has committed over $2.7 Million to Woolsey and Hill fire relief and recovery efforts.

Through a grant from the American Red Cross, California Lutheran University Community Counseling Services (CCS) is able to provide free therapy services for individuals, couples, and families who were impacted by the Thomas and Woolsey fires and any resulting debris flow incidents (e.g., mudslides). The Conejo Compassion Coalition is a nonprofit corporation based in the Conejo Valley of Southern California. The organization’s mission is to support the poor and those suffering from disasters in their attempts to improve their quality of life. The coalition’s outreach is global extending from the local Southern California area to countries as far away as Uganda and Pakistan. In support of the victims of the recent Woolsey Fire, the Conejo Compassion Coalition is providing financial support to families whose homes were lost or severely damaged, to assist them in their transition to a “new normal” following the fire. In addition, the organization is assisting low-income residents with minor repairs to their fire damaged homes. In addition, Conejo Compassion Coalition volunteers are assisting the LA LTDRG Disaster Case Management Committee by screening fire survivors prior to the assignment of Disaster Case Managers.

CCD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “Empowerment through Employment.” CCDoperates America’s Job Centers in Koreatown, Compton, in South Los Angeles and on the Los Angeles Valley College Campus. For residents and workers impacted by the Woolsey Fire, our services are free of charge. We assist small business owners, self- employed individuals, contractors, domestic workers, and unemployed or laid-off individuals. For job seekers we assist with job search and offer free access to short-term certified vocational training. For residents and temporarily laid off workers, we can provide reimbursements for work tools, equipment, utility payments, and/or debris removal fees. For small businesses, we make referrals for refinancing or relocation, and may assist with inventory replacement. We also offer confidential counseling, life and financial coaching.

The D'Andre D. Lampkin Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization operating programs throughout California that have a significant impact in a wide range of issue areas, including education, economic development, climate change research, health and wellness, and providing healthy alternatives for under-served communities.

Our mission is to create positive opportunities and change for individuals, communities, and environments. Our goal is to sponsor and create programs and initiatives that lead to the development of stronger communities and positively impact individuals wanting to lead happier and healthier lives.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA assists households impacted by the Woolsey Fire with home repairs and rebuilding, and leads the Construction Committee of the LTRG. Home repairs are most often done by contractors and Habitat’s professional repair crew. Rebuilds are undertaken when sufficient funds are available for materials and construction and involve volunteer labor. Habitat LA also provides ReStore shopping vouchers for furniture and household goods for our three ReStores located in mid-Wilshire, Torrance and Bellflower, and works with faith groups in the Valley and the greater LA region in support of Habitat LA build projects. We are happy to connect local pastors and faith leaders through the LTRG and assist with fundraising efforts to help rebuild Seminole Springs and other communities affected by the Woolsey fire.

For over 42 years, Hospice of the Conejo has been caring for the residents in Eastern Ventura County. Besides our legacy Hospice care we also provide grief support groups facilitated on a weekly basis by licensed therapists. To respond to those residents impacted by the Woolsey and Hills fires, Hospice of the Conejo is providing an ongoing support group which meets Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm at our center in Thousand Oaks. Jewish Free Loan is a non-profit offering interest-free loans to LA and Ventura county residents on a non-sectarian basis since 1904. At present, we have nearly $11 million out in the community in microloans ranging from $500 to $100,000. In general, we help with loans for emergencies such as rent/mortgage and utility bills, car repairs, car purchase, medical and dental bills, moving costs, loans for home healthcare, fertility treatments and adoption, post-high school education, children with special needs, women fleeing domestic violence, life cycle events, small businesses and more.

Jung Shim Agoura Hills Studio is a place of harmony and positive energy where people can recharge their depleted energy caused by the stresses and strains of modern life. Its founder Renate Damhuis was personally affected by the Woolsey Fire. Very soon thereafter, like a phoenix rising out of the ashes, she opened a Jung Shim Wellness center to help the Woolsey victims overcome the symptoms of post traumatic stress syndrome that many are still experiencing to this day. Specially trained practitioners offer energy treatments that use acupressure and sound vibration to de-toxify and re-charge the body, stimulate the energy flow and calm the mind. In addition, they offer energy classes (including meditation), chanting classes, energy coaching and workshops. Jung Shim’s goal is to teach people how to regain their equilibrium and learn to manage their natural energy better for a healthy and happier life, now and for the future. The Jung Shim practice is based on an eastern philosophy that originates from South Korea. Jung Shim is a non-profit organization with studios in Europe, Asia and South Africa.

The Los Angeles County Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) protects the rights and advances the well-being of all immigrants in the County of Los Angeles. OIA functions as a one-stop shop for immigrant residents to access all County services. We collaborate with every County department to improve policies and systems that advance immigrants’ well-being, connect immigrant residents to available County resources, and support effective service delivery. OIA helps immigrant residents impacted by the Woolsey Fire navigate available County services including health care, temporary housing, food, cash aid, education, and employment services.

Through our parent department the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, we assist in preventing residents from becoming victims of price gouging or post-disaster scams. Our unique connection with the immigrant community allows us to raise awareness of available resources and to bridge communication between the community and local government leaders.

Lutheran Disaster Response, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, brings God’s hope, healing and renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. We help the church continue to be church in the midst of natural and human-caused disasters. We believe every response needs to be rooted in community so we work to accompany impacted communities from immediate relief through long-term recovery.

Lutheran Social Services of Southern California has a legacy of meeting the needs of the vulnerable in our communities since 1946. Neighborhood Legal Services Los Angeles provides free legal assistance to low-income and older Los Angeles residents with fire related issues including, but not limited to, FEMA, SBA, unemployment (including Disaster Unemployment Assistance), CALWorks (welfare) CalFresh (food stamps), medical insurance, landlord-tenant problems, home ownership, and mobile home issues. The Presbytery of the Pacific is one of seven regional governing bodies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the Southern California and Hawaii region. The mission of the Presbytery of the Pacific is to assist congregations to be effective in meeting real needs of those in and around their community, make great impact in transforming lives, and grow in capacity to provide ministries that are meaningful to those serving and served. The Presbytery of the Pacific administers grant money from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and coordinates a Disaster Response Team of local church leaders. PDA and Pacific Presbytery are giving a $200,000 grant to the LA Region LTRG to help build capacity and support for it mission to the community.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic event. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., with a focus on the long-term recovery of disaster impacted communities. It is works collaboratively with church partners and members of the ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together) internationally, and nationally with faith-based and community responders. PDA connects church leaders with partners locally and internationally with key organizations active in the response — United Nations, NVOAD (National Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster), World Food Program, Red Cross, FEMA and others--providing grant money and training through regional governing bodies of the PC(USA).

The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is an international humanitarian non-profit organization whose mission is to relieve the suffering of those in need while creating a better world for all through respect, gratitude, and love. Tzu Chi provides spiritual support and financial assistance to those who have lost their houses and belongings in the Woolsey Fire and to those whose lives have been impacted by the Fire. Tzu Chi assists the affected in improving livelihood (e.g., rental support, housing, school supplies, job training, and case management) and referrals for psychosocial support.

United Policyholders is a non-profit that empowers and informs policyholders and advocates for fair insurance practices in all 50 states. We don't take money from insurance companies.Our mission is to be a trustworthy and useful information resource and a respected voice for consumers of all types of insurance.

West Valley Counseling Center, along with their second location Ventura Counseling and Wellness Center, provides high-quality, affordable therapy and family counseling in a comfortable, private practice setting. The centers’ qualified therapists will work with individuals, couples, children, and families to help ease life's burdens. West Valley Counseling Center understands the community’s need to address a number of different emotional and mental health issues that are induced by the trauma related impact of the Woolsey Fire. Their team of therapists is trained in trauma-informed care and is prepared with resources that are necessary to provide extended support to those impacted, both directly and indirectly, by the fires. Both centers are capable of providing services to those impacted at low to no cost depending on each individual or family's needs. Extended services include the art therapy program, groups, and a number of different non-conventional approaches to healing such as reiki, singing bowls, Kirtan chanting, meditation and yoga, made available at the Ventura location.

Women’s Economic Ventures is supporting individuals and small business owners economically impacted by the Woolsey, Hill and Thomas Fires through the provision of Small Business Recovery grants and Small Business Resilience training/advice. Based in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, WEV is dedicated to creating an equitable and just society through the economic empowerment of women. WEV provides training, consulting and loans to help entrepreneurs start, grow and thrive in business. While WEV targets its services toward women, it helps men as well. The World Renew Community Assessment for the Woolsey Fire has had walk-in centers in Agoura Hills and Malibu. The assessment located the vulnerable and most needy Woolsey-impacted individuals, identified resources available for recovery, provided data to support a recovery budget, and prioritized impacted individuals’ unmet needs.
